Roger L. Washington, a 19-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department, and revered Pastor from the West side, is set to officially launch his campaign to become Chicago's next mayor. Mr. Washington was born and raised on the Westside of Chicago. He attended the city's Crown Community Academy elementary school, and subsequently, Gordon Tech High School, where he was recognized for both his academic and athletic performance.
Upon completion of high school, Mr. Washington enrolled in Barber-Scotia University located in Concord, North Carolina, where, he majored in physiology and sociology. He was awarded a bachelor’s degree from the University in 1997. Mr. Washington continued his education and pursued his interest in criminal justice. He attended Calumet College of St. Joseph in Whiting, Indiana, where he earned a master’s degree in Public Safety and Administration. With an advanced degree in hand, Mr. Washington headed back home to Chicago to pursue his passion for criminal justice. On October 25, 1999, he joined and became a sworn in member of the Chicago Police Department. He has served as a police officer in the 25th District, located in the city's Westside for 15 years. Currently, he is assigned to a beat in the 2nd District, located in the city's South Side, where he has served for the last four years. Mr.Washington also serves as a Crisis Intervention Specialist for the City Colleges of Chicago. He has held that position for the past 15 years.
Mr. Washington has been actively engaged in Chicago-area community, civic and religious based organizations. He is an ordained pastor and has served in that capacity at two area churches for nearly 20 years. He has served as Associate Pastor of Neighborhood United Methodist Church of Maywood, Illinois, and he has served for nearly 10 years as both Associate and Youth Pastor of Freedom Church of Hillside, Illinois, where he currently remains active. Mr. Washington believes that his extensive, exceptional and honored performance as a policeman coupled with his highly recognized service and achievements as a pastor, uniquely and best qualifies him for the Office of Mayor of the City of Chicago.
